Re: John Wilks 475 # 2

Nigel,

I went to see the .475 #2 that is in this thread just before Christmas. The bores were in very good condition with a light frosting in the right barrel. The gun had been completely refinished. Upon close inspection the person who refinished the barrels had not done a job up to the standards of the original maker. At one time or another the barrels had surface pitting. The refinisher did not draw file deep enough to take out some small pits on the under side of the left barrel. Also light surface pitting/rust around the sling swivel on the barrel that had not been completely removed before the reblue. I pointed this out to the owner and a few other tell tale signs that the gun had been redone. It has sold and off to never never land only to turn up at a later date. No I did not purchase the rifle.

The .577 WR was also very nice however way out of my price range. Guess I will stick to my best quality .577 Alex Henry BPE.
