Spot-on, Alan. My favourite chambering for boars in the thick stuff is the .577 x 2 3/4 Light Nitro. I have tossed up a story about hunting boar with that cartridge on a previous thread.
Another case in point: I was hunting with Marty and another mate the other day in a spring-jungle south of Darwin, with the .577. I was the 'bird-dog' on this occasion, crashing my way through the palm-fronds and vines inside the fringe, hoping to chase out a boar or two for the other guys to get a shot at. Of course, the second boar I put up decided to double back through the thick stuff. I was swinging nicely through his body as he passed at full gallop, when he instantly disappeared behind a wall of young palms. I simply continued the swing anyway till it felt about right, and slapped the front trigger. I heard the boar crash away for 20 metres more, then all quiet. The blood-trail round the other side of the palm-thicket was the usual from that cartridge, shall we say 'very easy to follow', and his tusks are now in my trophy cabinet. Couldn't have done that with a .308!
