Generally speaking, how many rounds is an old English double good for? How about newly manufactured rifles? Those of you who reload, was barrel life a factor in your load development? And once the barrels are shot out, how much accuracy is lost at the short distances (50yds) that we normally use our doubles?
armbar I don't think there is anyone who can give you a difinetive answer to that question, certainly not me! However, I am of the opinion that with proper care, and feeding, while useing proper loads that shoot to the regulation of the rifle, you will not live long enough to wear the barrels out on a double rifle useing modern smokeless powders. The wear you will experience will be from poor cleaning, and care of the mateing surfaces of your double rifle, not from shooting it!
