Agree with 4seventy about dry firing on an empty chamber or a spent case. The firing pins can stick in fired primer and go to far out and burr on an empty chamber.

Why do you feel it is foolish to use snap caps alot for practice? Isn't that one of the reasons for them? Practice? I know that you should use them to take off the tension on the firing pins but you can uncock a double by pulling both triggers as you close it also.
