To further understand the function of the rising bite, think of it as analogous to a Greener crossbolt, but operating in the vertical plane instead of the horozontal plane.

The Bissel rising bite lowers with the operating lever to unlock the bolt and rises when the action closes to bolt the third fastener loop.

In the pictures I posted, the rising bite is easily recognised because it is blackened.

Hard to explain, but if you see it once you will know.
