All, I decided to stop by the New Great OutDoor Shop/Bass Pro Shop on the way home tonight to kill some time. I went to the "Fine gun room" and ogled the three doubles they had. One was a $50000.00 Thye in .470 NE. Very clean, maybe 50 rounds through it. I loved it. They also had a well used but still mechanically sound Jefferys .375H&H flanged for $12999.00. This gun was built around 1960 and I'm sure spent a large amount of its time in Africa. It felt very solid and quick to point. They also had a Rodda hammer, for $4700.00 that I thought was a POS, in 500/450 BPE. I think these guns are around 20% over priced. Heck they had well used pre 64 Model 70's for up to $6500.00! The Jefferys did have some pitting under the forestock on both barrles. What does this mean about its use? Is this just grit rubbing or rust. I didn't see any rust, but it was re-blued I think. The express sight was loose as well. Still was a great feeling gun. Oh yeah, it had a Webely action. Barrles looked clean, but I didn't get a really good look at them. Had to act like I was really a buyer to get to handle the guns. Funny, though, I knew more about the doubles than the sales slime, he admitted it, and I'm a greenhorn with doubles. You would think they would educate these guys a little better. Jason PS: I understand humor of this being a Bass Pro Shop having these guns. |
