For what its worth from a 'new guy', I hunted wild boar on a preserve in PA about 8 years ago. I used a TC Contender in 44mag. My big mistake was believing all the 'hype' about Black Talon ammo being so devestating. I bought the last box my dealer had after Winchester stopped selling them with that name. I should have stuck with a good heavy solid. It took four hits to drop my 300lb boar, and a fifth one for the kill. I'll admit the first shot could have been better and fifty yards may have been a bit far; as it hit in front of the shoulder. The others were well placed; but by then I had an angry Hog on my hands. When my Hog was down, I accompanied my buddy, who was bow hunting. After he got a hit we started tracking the blood trail. Eventually the boar charged. He had a choice between my young thin friend, and my well-fed self, I was down to my last round and backed up against a dead fall. When he came it was all instinct and no sights; but at only a couple feet the .44 hit him like the "Hand of God!" No it wasn't Africa, and a Wild Boar is not a angry Buff; but that was and exciting hunt, and alot of good pork. |
