Tinker I agree, however as stated above by 400 NE the available .408 for my rifle are Woodleighs and Hawks.

With the softer Hawks I usually back off 2-3 grains of RL-15 because they seal better and I get the same velocity as the Woodleigh with less powder.

500 grain, actually Butch only produces a .411 450/400 3 inch with 26 inch barrels.

Most of the 400 Jeffery, aka 450/400 3 inch, rifles I have seen have been .408 caliber. And, as you say this varies from maker to maker. Most of the vintage .411 I have seen have been 3 1/4 inch chamberings.
