400 NE, I did not measure them, but visually they did not seem thinner than usual. As I recall, they appeared about the same thickness as my W-R 450/400 3". I don't recall for sure on the refinish, as I was more concerned with safety than value since Ernest had already purchased the rifle. I was mainly just helping Ernest get fired brass to send for the dies to be made. I found it interesting that those barrels were .411, and my W-R barrels are .408. I suppose that was W-R's idea of "normal" between the 3" and 3.25" versions of the .400 at that point in time, but I would be interested in what other W-R .400 owners have found with their rifles. My Rhodda 450/400 3" is .412+. Oh well, as we have all experienced, lack of "standardization" is just part of the "fun and allure" of vintage rifles . Jim |
