Mauser, I think you are missing the point of the cobbination gun, be it rifle/shotgun, ot two different chamberings in rifle barrels. Where I used to live, and hunt, the blue quail, muledeer, black bear, and wild turkey was all open at the same time. I found a little Berella cape gun (s/s side lock hammer ) chambered for 8X57JR,on the right barrel, and a 16 ga shotgun on the left. Before I got this little rifle, when I left my jeep, I either took my rifle, or my shotgun, depending on what I was most likely to see in that area. Inveribly, if I had the rifle, I'd jump quail, or trukeys, if I was stalking a covey of quail, or a flock of turkeys, I'd jump a big muley. Since I did a lot of back-pack hunting in those days, this rifle was absolutely the nuts. What these guns are is two single shots on the same stock. They are used like a single shot. The cheap little Savage combos are a good platform for a pick-up gun for a rancher. I had one factory chambered for 20ga/22 lr I cut the shot barrel off just ahead of the henge pin, and sleeved in a 30-30 barrel, and carried in my jeep for years. worked like a charm, on our ranch where one minute you were seeing a jack rabbit, and the next a deer. I have several cape guns, and combination guns, and I find a use for them all. They are great backpacking guns. ![]() |
