Guys, I had a quick look at the Blaser SxS today. It was a 6.5 / 20Gauge. Double Rifles are not in yet but it gave me a very good indication. Overall impression - I liked it. Light (felt a bit like a Chapuis in weight and feel) nicely balanced, fit and finish good. Gun "came up" VERY well and I was looking straight down the sights - not something I do all that often with double rifles. A DR in anything up to 9.3 would feel the same. I would like to see bigger calibres than this (ie 470) to see how they balanced and felt in the hand. From the questions and comments posted by others. (I have shortened some to just the main component of the query) Rubber between the barrels ? - it is quite hard and looks OK to me. The rib with the sights on is solid metal. As to how it is put together I wouldn't know but I can't see a problem with the system funky locking mechanism? - see Cocking / Decocking system below And then what about the huge overall size of the rifle? WHAT Huge over all size of the rifle ??? I am not sure what the poster who put this question up was referring to. How about the bands around the muzzles? The band around the muzzles holds the 3 screws for adjustment and the screws that move the barrel. Looks fine to me and is probably well thought out. 3 very small Hex screws ? I can't see how you could use much bigger Hex Screws And the clunky stock? What clunky stock ? - I thought the stock was well shaped. Roof over the action The gun uses a Tilting Block mechanism (on the back / rear of the action.) The roof over the action covers this so it does actually have some functionality. Will the "Roof over the action" affect reloading For someone new to DR's, I don't see it as a big problem. For those used to English and new DR's, a slight modification to loading style may be needed but I'd need to do a quick R, L followed by a reload to give you an honest opinion. For a Non DGDR, I don't see it being a problem. Cocking / Decocking system Seem very similar to the Krieghoff. One thing is that if you open the gun, it decocks itself and then after gun is closed you have to recock the gun by pushing the button forward. The button is well shaped and easy to use but the distance you have to push it may be a bit long IMHO. I will have to try it when shooting it to know more. Anyway, these are my initial thoughts. I'll repost when I have seen the SxS DR. Hope this helps. 500 Nitro |
