Savage Arms Co. made combination guns of this type years ago, I don't know if they are still makeing them or not. They were mostly 20 ga. shotgun on the bottom barrel and a smaller rifle caliber (22 LR, 22 Hornet, 222, and on up to 30-30) on the top barrel. Some were also made with 12 ga barrels. I sold a few and took some in on trade when I had my gunshop years ago. They were inexpensive little guns that were semi popular with the person wanting one gun, a shot gun and rifle) all in one. I never was grazy about them and still am not. I personally see no reason to have a rifle/shotgun combined into one gun as you are limiting yourself. If you miss a bird in flight on the first shot with the shotgun barrel, how do you expect to hit it on the second shot with a rifled barrel? The same would hold true if you are deer hunting and miss with the rifled barrel, I don't see the shotgun barrel loaded with bird shot of much use. I also can not see the need for a double caliber rifle. You have to take two different calibers of ammo with you, seems to me this could be confusing at times. I defenately would not take a rifle like this to hunt DG, or even plains game as DG could be lurking in the area. Miss with the 9.3x74R and use the 22 Hornet for a stopper? Just my opinion, these guns would not be something I would want or see a need for! |
