Quote: Add my vote for restoring the original surface that has been defaced by some clod with (what looks to be) an electric engraver. This marking is like an awful tattoo on a pretty girl…..sacrilege I say. In that hand held electric engravers only came along in about 1988 I doubt any connection to an interesting personality, but hey, I've been wrong before. The way to go would be Laser welding, then careful dressing the surface and attention to blend the repair. Note that the steel from the weld will likely not take restoration finish the same as the original action steel, but that can be mostly overcome by a 'smith that knows vintage/antique restoration. - Mike |
