What Clay said! ...and then some! Peter Orr is a namesake and relative of mine, from another branch of the Orr family tree. His premises in Madras (now Chennai) complete with clock tower, still exists albeit minus a bit off the rear of the building for a railway station entrance. Peter Orr was a genuine entrepreneur during the Raj, manufacturing and/or selling ice, firearms, jewellery, silverware, punkahs, anything he could specialize in and make a few rupees. Even had his own record label! He quickly became the official jeweler and silversmith to several Maharajas, and to the King of Burma after setting up a branch in Rangoon (now Yangon). When the Prince of Wales visited India in 1876, he was presented with a large silver ewer hallmarked P.Orr, and the firm was immediately appointed silversmiths to the Prince by royal warrant. There's a long history of such things, and the gun-making (retailing) by P. Orr & Sons is of great interest.
I currently own a Nitro Paradox called "The Oranson", made by G&S Holloway for P. Orr & Sons around a hundred years ago.
A search of these forums should turn up quite a bit of discussion on this maker/retailer, including gun-case trade labels, and the Oranson paradox currently in my custody.
Thanks Marrakai, some good insight into the company. I also looked up your Paradox - a lovely piece indeed, and the paperwork that accompanies it is something special.
