After reading the 4th edition of Graeme Wrights book, and re-reading a number of older posts here and DGJ articles by Seyfried and Bell, I've started trying NfB loads using 4198 and kapok filler in some of my doubles, including this Woodward. The results have been very promising. The Woodward shot a 1.5" group at 25 yards, centered 2.5" above the bullseye. This was only 4 shots and too short a range but I'll stretch that out next time. Bullets were 340gr lead flat nose, cast at .502" and patched to .507-.508". One nice thing about these bullets, which come from Bear Creek Supply of Waterford, California, is they are quite affordable, at $58 for 250 bullets. They patch nicely with patches made from an excel template from Curl, on 9lb paper from Buffalo Arms. I am grateful to all of you for your advice and shared experiences. In the case of NfB loads, I know some of those views differ. Please continue to disagree; that's how we get better. |
