In reply to: $1500 is a little high, buttttttt, it isn't what they are made of, but what it takes to MAKE them. The fitting is very percise, and requires a skill level hand work that is uncommon in today's gun world! Camplin's claw mounts start at around $800, on a bolt rifle, but are higher priced on a double. EAWs (swing mounts are a little cheaper, but not cheap) are also available. One thing that must be considered is, the weight of the scope rings, bases, and scope must be as light as is possible. Addtionally, the scope must be mounted as low as is possible. The heavier, and/or higher the scope is mounted, the more torque it creates, durring recoil, adversly effecting the regulation of the rifle, in most cases. The doubles that are very well suited to scope use on occasion, are the 375 H&H FL, and the 9.3X74R, but any scope mounted on a double rifle absolutely must be in QD rings and bases, that return to zero! ![]() |
