Too easy. I remembered trying to find a hi-res image of the Merkel trademark, the armourer at his anvil hammering a billet of steel into a sword blade, supposedly inscribed "Suhl seit 1535", but gave up in the end. John: none of the trade label images I post will be suitable for printing as-is. I toss them up on my own domain and would quickly exceed the storage limit if they were print quality. They are intended to show content and layout, including fonts, crests etc, so the enthusiast can put together a good quality repro using their own software. If you don't need curved text, Microsoft Word will do the job just fine. Here's a nice one from a Dougall case. I don't actually have a Dougall but acquired a nicely restored 12-bore SxS hammer-gun built on the Dougall Lock-Fast patent action by John Wilkes, who apprenticed to J.D.Dougall in his youth. The gun bears the name of Irwin Wallas of Wigton & Carlisle on the locks, and although not Scottish, you could throw a stone northwards from their foundry and hit a scotsman! |
