Re: Case labels

John:
Some confusion is apparent.

Quote:

I'm not sure if my Jeffery was Orr retailed.

The Jeffery .400 double in my current employ was not retailed by P.Orr & Sons. The Jeffery sales ledger from the pre-WWII period no longer exists, so we will never know who received the guns from Jeffery at that time. Presumably firms like Manton's, and yes, perhaps even Peter Orr, took delivery of some in India, but many would have been delivered to individual customers at their London premises.

My P. Orr & Son retailed gun is a 12-bore nitro paradox made by G. & S. Holloway.

My assumption that you had a Peter Orr retailed gun was based on your earlier post:
Quote:

And a Westley Richards 1879 era label.
The gun was built as a 10 bore in 1879, for WC Wood Esq. on behalf of P. Orr & Sons, Madras, India.

And that Jeffery trade label I posted a pic of, is a gold-embossed leather label. Not the kind of thing I was expecting anyone to want to print a paper version of!
