Thank you very much for your help. The records are very useful and it’s interesting to learn it cost Ł65. Jeffery was charging Ł60 for a best quality sidelock at the time.
The rifle is en route to me and will update with photos at the earliest.
It was by chance that the dealer (Paul Roberts) remembered the rifle in The Maharaja of Jodhpur’s collection in 1970s.
He told me Jodhpur shot a 100lber (Asian) elephant with it.
The rifle ended up being sold at Christie’s in the 70s for Ł15,000 to a man who brought it to northern Rhodesia and hunted elephants with it.
It’s in fine condition, with some case colours and perfect rifling.
