In the SE USA, long shots are 75 yards because there is so much vegetation. You can see deer at a longer distance (well bits and pieces of teh deer) but there is too much vegetation in the way for a clean shot. The last deer that I shot was about 40 yards away. I initially saw him when he was probably 100 yds away and let him amble closer to where I could see a good kill shot. I shot him with my BSW in caliber 8x57IR. Next year, I think I will hunt with a drilling to change the routine. |
