I obtained Remington's brochure on the Spartan line. They have an over under that looks very much like the one I saw at the show. I would not be at all surprised to learn they are the same rifle under two different labels. This is the first time I've seen one, so they are too new in the area to make any predictions on sales. The Midwest is not precisely traditional double rifle country, I think most people only know enough about them to be dangerous. Like the guy I ran into in my home town in Michigan who wouldn't use a double rifle for deer hunting because "it isn't accurate enough". Like he's going to hunt deer with a bench rest rifle? There are a few hard core types like me around, more than you'd think if you beat the bushes a bit. But then that may be the case in a lot of areas. I'd suppose a few of the hard core types like myself might buy one for a toy to play with. After all, I did once buy a CVA front stuffer double rifle. As for the looks of the Spartan SxS rifle, I wonder if it will improve. Some of the people doing the buying in Russia have been beating the drum for better styling. I saw the Remington Spartan SxS shot gun and it looked an order of magnitude better than anything I've seen from Russia up to now. |
