I think you will find that the strikers are gold plated - not brass blocks.
I worked on an almost identical rifle many years ago - it still had 2 1/2" chambers, and shot a case full of black and a round ball quite splendidly.
You may try a round ball load in this rifle - it does make the recoil much more pleasant.
