Great pictures John. I am very jealous of your Banteng. And, a super cool old rifle ( Baily’s comments described it perfectly ) Try your same full power load with 350 grain bullets. I recently acquired a 500/450 and I am having good luck with 350 and 300 grain bullets with my full house load.
Thanks for sharing

My banteng mount needs it's horns twisted out sideways. The taxidermist I used that one time has the horns pointing forward not sideways. Spoiks the mount imo.

Hi John.

Have you tried leadbullets in your .450 #2?

Thanks guys for the comments.

In my big bore rifles I've tended to pick one bullet and stick with it.

For the .450 no.2 NE, the 480 gr Woodleigh Weldcore RNSP and RNFMJ.

The .375, 300 gr Woodleigh Weldcore RNSP and RNFMJ. The 9.3x74R 286 gr Woodleigh Weldcore PSP and FMJ. Ivecshotvsome lighter factory ammo in .375 and factory ammo in my .404. I've got boxes of other bullets on thanks for all of them.

As said I have boxes of .458 350 grs in a pile somewhere. I'd like to try them. Yes the 75% rule suggests using the full "100%" load.

I've not real interest in shooting lead bullets in it at the moment.

Rigbymauser, what do you shoot in a .450 re lead bullets? For hunting? How do they compare to jacketed?

If I don't have many 350 grs jacketed or they run out. And if Woodleigh or some other producer is not making? And if some other .458 lighter bullet can't be regulated, lead bullets might be an option. I've never made my own lead bullets. Perhaps when I get started I will try more. I've a .500 BPE I've never shot. The 10-bore still gathers dust. Potential starters. Plus a .577/450. .58 ML. Shotguns!

If the SHTF and supplies become harder to source, lead bullets might become more than handy.

Daryl, I don't have my eyes closed in any photos. I am very hotted and puffed up in the banteng image. Hunting in late November, hot and high humidity.

Deh0goins, I do like this old rifle. I must hunt even medium game with it for fun. Big dangerous game hunts are too few nowadays. A pig hunt in the future would be great. Even feral goats again. Roo culling on permit? Going to have to get close.

Thanks guys for the replies.
