Quote: Quite useful for a lot of guys, newbies, even old hands ... How many times does one see a hunting film, where the bolt action is cycled from the hip, before raised to fir a "quick" second shot. Instead of the dude learning to work the bolt at the shoulder. The safety off procedure he shows is good to do. These guns with auto safeties would never be an issue if someone learned to always do it that way. I had a mantra after my second elephant. Because of a habit of double discharges and an auto safety. "Raise rifle, safety off, rear trigger, elephant brain, front sight, rear sight, front sight, elephant brain, squeeze ..." Sounds long winded but everything in an instant. Repeat the mantra until it is second nature. And yes, the left barrel is fine in my Jeffery first. Mark is OK in person. If he gets with another person with the braggies, both of them did get a bit much. Leave them to it. ![]() The binoculars position makes a lot of sense. I ditched the bo0inicular bra after one day of use. Ffffing straps everywhere. A nuisance. I've use the same underarm binoc position for years. Mine aren't compacts though. The ammo position makes sense. But I carry more rounds. What happens when you've shot off any five or seven! ![]() Now he doesn't carry a knife, usually just for show in Africa. A Leatherman pliers is useful. Water? But in Africa one has blackamatic carriers for carrying stuff. Our solo hunting, we do our own carrying and work. I like his admission that only 5 out of 100 buffalo or wounded buffalo will charge. Pretty spot on IMO. "Going into battle!". Ha ha, that is funny. His comments in when and how to shoot a charging buffalo are very good. And gutsy. I know I popped off my two rounds long before 10 feet. And yes if they don't drop it you are fine for. Can't reload in time. Luckily my buffalo in the end ran past me instead. I only had reloaded one barrel as he passed so popped a shot into him going past. Earlier he had corrected his chargevaim straight for me before my last shot. I moved sideways to reload behind an inadequate tree and for whatever reason he didn't press it home and ran past. I think it takes guts to wait to 15 to 10 feet to fire. But is no doubt more effective. A .577 3 inch is also good insurance ... With these videos one has to filter out the annoying and concentrate on what's useful. |
