Not sure about the Crisco, but 50%/60% beeswax and 50%/40% Vaseline works very well with black powder.
The case provided appears to have been shot with smokeless.
Vaseline is not a Petrolem Oil product, it is a Petroleum WAX, which works well with BP fouling, in case you wondered.
