My oh my! If I died and went to heaven . . . this is the website that would be tucked under my wings! 58 years old, a Jack O'Conner/Elmer Keith/John Taylor fan, lover of fine English double rifles and a avid reloader. I feel like Old Lonesome George Gobel on the Tonight Show many years ago . . . thus the subject intro. George came out as a guest, last, and was a little wowed by the two previous guests sitting to his right. . . Dean Martin and Bob Hope, both in tuxedos. Sipping on his drink he looked at them, looked at Carson and without cracking a smile he looked at the audience and said, " Did you ever feel like the world is a tuxedo . . . and you were a brown pair of shoes? " That's the way I feel here. You fellows talk about .500 3", .475 #2's, .470's, 500/.465's etc.the way anyone else would speak of their trusty .22LR or beat up 12 ga.! Hasn't EVERYONE got at least a couple!? No, I don't have a Wilkes, Rigby, Manton, or Holland but we all can do a few imaginative safaris in our heads, armed with one of them. Look forward to watching the site. One question though that interested me. One of you guys said on a forum last night that the recoil of a double essentially is different than a magazine. Could someone explain that to me. Am I to conclude that the recoil of , say a double 10 1/2 pound .470, is greater than that of my 8 1/2 pound .458 or 9 pound .416 Rigby? Thanks to all. |
