Mehul, Thank you very much for taking the trouble to gather this information. It is truly enlightening to me. I am particularly interested in discussions that elaborate on unique gun designs. Here you have shed light on the race to design hammerless double guns that would cock as the barrels swing open. Westley Richards had a good system with the A&D. That system ultimately prevailed, but Greener showed that there is more than one way to accomplish the task. It makes me think of other systems that performed this function. L.C. Smith used a curious system of levers that articulated with the forearm to twist rods. Not being very familiar with those guns, I don't fully understand the mechanics of that system. Fox used a sliding bar. Parker had its own system, of which I am not familiar. The modern day Chapuis uses yet another method. We would all benefit from detailed explanations of these systems as you have provided for the Facile Princeps. Again, thanks for your contributions. Curl |
