Re: A Stalking Double?

.30-40 U.S Government also known as (and loaded by Kynoch as) .30 Purdey Nitro Express.

Might this one have been made for sale in India to get round the .303 military calibre ban?

That is really interesting.

I think a .30/40 Krag side by side, slim, balanced well regulated double rifle would make an ideal and fantastic choice for an American citizen wanting a vintage historic cartridge stalking DR for North America.

So much more interesting and unusual than a .30-06.

I see people often hope for a 220 gr RN regulation loading. I know I would prefer a 180 gr regulation loading. When I get around to regulating my Tikka U/O .30-06 DR barrels, I will probably go for a 180 gr Spitzer or RN. I usualy shoot 150 grs for medium game in my M98. Somtimes 180 gr spitzers. A 180 gr or 200 gr makes a good sambar choice and some of the bigger African antelope. And similar species. A 220 gr I probably would only use on buffalo and bovines.

Edelweiss,
Please post some photos of this rifle if you take any, or receive any. Thanks.
