All my hunting is done with doubles if buffalo are on the cards, which is about 90% of the time. In this case, the Jeffery .400 gets about 60% of the action, a .577 Light Nitro gets about 20%, and my Manton .470 only gets about 10% to date, but its relatively 'new' so that will change. A couple of other doubles get maybe one hunt per year. If buff are a no-no, then I usually take the opportunity to give my 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine a day out, it has been my all-time favourite bolt-gun for many years, kills way beyond its ballistics with the 160gr round-nose bullet. Happily, the choice of hardware for a hunt becomes more difficult with each new purchase! |
