In lieu of the lead sled or other device on the market, I have used, off a bench, a pair of blue jeans with two bags of shot down each leg and the butt nestled into the crotch of the jeans, of course with the legs stretched out on the bench.

Hold the rifle, bolt or double with the forward hand as you normally would but don't put your should to the butt merely "sneak" your finger into the trigger gaurd on to the trigger. I'll feel odd, especially holding the forearm of a double and for either bolt or double you will need to hold it down through recoil. You'll be suprised by the lack of recoil and by the need to hold the barrel(s) down.

It won't due for final sight in but will provide the best grouping your likely to get and a few final shots without the jeans will show any variation from your normal hold.

I tried this with a couple of rifles and shot my best groups (for checking regulation) this way. I also tried it with a 375H&H with a bunch of factory ammo to see what shot best. Didn't get beat up and found the ammo the 375 loves. needed to move poi about half inch down and right when I shot without the jeans.
