But if that's your obsession why not. And then go for short barrels. You don't need long ones for that cartridge.

But why not a .44/40 or something older. Get it inscribed with 1890 or something to confuse people in the future.

I do like your idea John for any of the 'small' bores - even a good .303British wouldn't be too far off the mark as far as energy goes when used with the shorter barrels!
But if you're hankering for a .44 then I would stick with the .44 Mag, only for the extra energy & if reloading - not for the nostalgia of a .44WCF
