Mate, just a question out of interest. How do you normally hunt roe deer? Do you normally shoot them from a high seat? Or try to stalk them in the forest or the edges of fields? What usually is the range? When I hunt roe in Denmark we did all of that. I shot a roe females stalking through the field behind the house. Sat in a high seat for a while. Tried stalking forest paths. Enjoyed the path stalking immensely. Impressed even myself with my stalking ability to move completely and utterly quiet and slowly. Got within two metres of a roe deer. Unfortunately did not know it was there. A fern was slowly moving, and suddenly a deer broke out and ran seemingly from nowhere. I could not understand how a "twig" like that could hide the deer at a metre or two away. I am guessing, if you want a short barrelled .44 Mag double rifle for roe deer, you must be shooting sometimes from closer range? Maybe want something shooter in an open Danish high seat box? If I wanted a DR for roe and if it is legal where you are, I would go for a 5.6x50 Mag Rimmed rifle. Obviously not suitable for your larger framed rifle. |
