Sounds like a good plan to me. Accurate Arms, now Western Powders and Hodgdon used to have smokeless data for the .50 3 1/4" Sharps, driving 500gr. bullets at just over 2,000fps with 30,000psi(or CUP) pressures FYI. I might be able to find that data.
