Re: Alexander Henry serial numbers inventory - update

Huvius,

You have a very nice-looking sealing rifle. It seems to be in great shape for a rifle tht has been to sea and used as a tool.

Your rifle is in better shape than my sealing rifle. Unfortunately, a former owner decided to clean my rifle. The action appears to have been lightly buffed, and the markings are either fairly light or missing. I don’t see a serial number; the only number is 1898 stamped on the top of the action which I believe is a patent number. The bore of my rifle was somewhat rough so I lapped the bore and now it shoots hard cast GC bullets fairly well.

Does your rifle have the ship marked on the stock? Mine did but someone tried to remove that stamp (letters are now impossible to read). The seller thought that it was “borrowed” by a crew member who removed most of the markings.

These are fun guns to shoot. I use a NfB loads but plan to try black.
