The exterior is better than I was expecting.
All 100% correct and intact with quite a bit of the old powdery iron oxide over much of the surface but fortunately not too many areas of real pitting.
Seems to be cleaning up well so far but I need to go through the action completely and give it a proper cleaning.
The biggest, and most exciting, surprise is that the bore is very nearly perfect!
As is the case with many hunting rifles upon which one’s livelihood depended, the bore was obviously very well cared for.
