Rifle has been recolored, bet it cracked when it warped in the heat treat. I had an 8 Bore double rifle with a minor crack after recoloring. It cracked in the corner of one of the cutouts in the frame where the barrel lugs go into. (Jones underlever). A prominent gunsmith welded the crack and recolored. No problems after that.
