Re: Chapuis SxS in 9.3x74 - Opinions Pls.

I’ve used a 9.3x74r Merkel double for deer and caribou hunting..... It’s a cartridge that works wonderfully and with a velocity around 2400 fps at the muzzle, it does not produce a tremendous amount of blood shot meat.

Chapuis doubles are not readily available around these parts, but the price point seems to place it near to but maybe slightly better than the Merkel. My personal opinion for or against is not terribly pertinent, not having personally owned one.

It would be interesting to fondle one and to give it a detailed exam with a borescope to see what’s going on inside. Having had several multi barrel Merkels, they all share the same trait of lovely well finished square and cleanly finished rifling but with very rough cut chambers with lots of tool marks.

The Chapuis from what one might deduce from the material available on the Internet, would seem to be regarded as one of the better entry level doubles if one can consider ~$10k entry level.
