FWIW - I've had this conversation with several dealers and the concensus is as follows. Most "best gun" makers put 1000-1200 man hours in a sidelock gun and build it to that point to maintain profitibility. There are a few makers which say they build a gun with no limit on the number of man hours (at least they claim more than 1200) and I have to agree that the quality is commnesurate with that statement.
