Re: My Holland .500/.465 blew a barrel

It is my understanding that gun barrels are generally thicker next to the ribs becasue they receive their final striking after the barrels have been regulated and assembled for the final time. (in part to remove any excess solder from the outer surfaces.) If this were also true of rifle barrels it might explain why they tend to blow out on the side away from the ribs rather than into the ribs.
