Re: merkel in 470

DoubletheFun

Good name!

I haven't owned a Merkel but have handled them and would not hesitate to own one. I know a lot of guys own them in Aust as the price is very competitive. They appear to be good value for the price and solid dependable modern double rifles. Certainly the most basic model usually is the best value (ie price vs quality) at the entry level. A recoil pad is an excellent idea.

Most Merkels seem to be sold in the .470 NE calibre so that is also a great choice.

Don't worry about mono-metal bullets, what is the hang up with the use of these anyway? (I know the reasons not to use them in double rifles but who wants to anyway?) Use the excellent Woodleigh bullets designed for double rifle use, including the FMJ.

I hope it serves you well. Any plans where you intend to use it?
