Nothing wrong with a Sporting Clays recoil pad. That hard insert allows the but to slide into position without catching on your clothing. I use them on all my shotguns and rifles for that reason. I find that Pachmayer makes a very good pad. Even if you are throwing the gun forward and up and bringing it back into the shoulder they can still snag especially if you have straps from a pack on top of your clothes. Those Sporting Clays type pads seem to help preventing this from happening.
