Re: William Douglas and Low Pressure Play Loads

I always shoot full power loads in my WR 470 and I've taken one cape buffalo but quite a few goats and pigs, a fox and a few rabbits. I'm currently going to try and add a hare and a feral sheep to the tally. The limiting factor for me is making sure I have a safe back stop.

The full power loads are quite adequate for smaller animals, although I hit the fox through the hips at 15 yards (running shot) and had to use a finisher. Shows how important shot placement is!

I use 115gn of AR 2214 (slower than H1000) and a 500gn Woodleigh but you'll have to figure out which load regulates in your rifle. Graeme Wright's "Shooting the English Double Rifle" is invaluable. I bought a double 20+ years ago and thought it was a bit of s--t, then, in 1997 bought Graeme's book and got it shooting into 2" 6 shots, open sights at 55 yards. The book will pay for itself just in helping you avoid crumpling cases.

Some of the guys here have reduced loads which regulate in their doubles and I'm sur they'll chime in.
