Daryl, you are right, the correct way to go would be a "Wiener Schnäpper-Montage". But this is really outdated and I would not really trust it with modern high-power cartridges. The Suhl claw mount that is used here stems practically from the same time, early 1900s or so, and I think it is quite appropriate. mauserand9mm, right too, in principle. But whoever can afford and appreciate such rifle will have 50+ eyes and probably never have used open sights. So if these rifles shall go hunting, there is no way around the scope. But have you seen all the efforts to make a modern scope look "oldfashioned" - brass ring around the objective, wooden lens cover, even a half-octagon profile in the objective tube to match the octagon barrel - wonder how Mr. Wutti did this. The scopes I see appear to have 42 mm objectives, so are very moderate for current "Germanics", not the 56 mm "stovepipe" that are quite the rule nowadays. BTW still wondering if a KuK Austrian would like to be called Germanic..... fuhrmann |
