Ya know, you really need to consider the weight of the rifle when you talk recoil. I have a 459 Win Mag which fires a 500g Hornady at 2000 fps from a 22 inch barrel. That rifle is a M98 and has a steel butt plate, and slip on recoil pad. The recoil of that is indistinquishable from my good friend's Searcy 500 NE. I fired both, back to back, and I can't tell a difference between them. Now, to make things really interesting, my good buddy fired his 500NE Searcy, a Ruger 458 Lott, and a 375. Turns out the 375 had the most recoil; the reason being the 375 was the lightest of the three and the 458 Lott had a mercury recoil reducer installed. The 500 NE was the heaviest of the three. So, all things being equal are not always equal. RobertD |
