A wooden block? I would like to see the photos.

I had mine all to pieces to adjust the spring tension on the safety. There was no wood in mine.

Another thing I will mention to the original poster: be sure to use proper lubricant on the hinge pin and locking bolts. This will make everything proper as the rifle wears in. Of course, proper lubricant is essential to any hinged weapon.
