Re: Canvas and leather sling?

I just ordered a 1 inch leather and canvas sling for my Wm . Evans 400/360 from Jeff's outfitters in Missouri (www.jeffsoutfitters.com) as well as the "classic" "swivel hooks and eyes" also 1 inch. It should look typical of the gear in use during the early 1900's and be great for "parading the rifle". In reality, from a compfort and practical stand point you can not beat the Butler Creek neoprene slings. They have a certain amount of "streach" built into them so that they cushion the weight of the rifle as you walk. As a result, the sling does not have the same tendency to dig into your shoulder. This makes it a much more compfortable sling to use when you have to carry any rifle, especially a heavy one. I now have one for most of my rifles (different colours). They also function well as a "hasty sling" because they are easier to get in and out of due to the streach factor. The underside of the neoprene pad also has small raised bumps which keep the sling from sliding off your shoulder. I will critique the canvas and leather sling when I get it.
