mickey, Thanks for the 2nd photo. In my database of photos I had a selection of photos of an almost identical Boswell that was in Australia 2 years ago (Only engraving different - Elephant one side, Lion the other. I would say it is a generic Birmingham action (that's NOT meant as a derogitory (sp?) comment) In my opinion, the engraving was not done in India but the UK. Like the W J Jeffrey's which had (as we call them) "Birmingham pussy cats" - the tigers with the flat noses !!!. I have an identical 500 Nitro by Watson Bros - the only diff being that my has full scroll enrgaving over the whole gun instad of the animals either side inserted between the engraving. Apart from that, I have just done an analysis of both photos and they are identical guns. I know mine was made in Birmingham as it too closely resembles other doubles I own, have owned, seen, shot etc etc. They are very nice, solid guns of generally very good build quality so if you get the chance to pick it up I would. 500's seem to be one of the least available of the popular calibres and the differenc on big game between a 470 et al and a 500 is significant. Anyway, hope this helps. Email me if you want. 500 Nitro |
