A 265gr. Hornady at 1,800fps was a friend's .444 Marlin load for over 20 years on moose. It never failed to floor a moose at from 25 yards to 200. He 'graduated' to a .35 Whelen which worked just about as well, but through to today, he still remarks on how that "triple 4" dropped his moose.
