Thanks Tinker, "Ask and ye shall receive"! That's what makes this site so great; the wealth of knowledge and info here is staggering. I just hope it is not lost when all of we old pharts cash in our chips. I own six double rifles and am building a seventh. My 16-year-old grandson would far rather inherit ONE AR or AK or SKS clone than ALL of them.

Never mind. There are up and coming young guys.

I remember getting interested in double rifles maybe around seventeen. Shot my first one, a Frankonia 5.6x50mmR/.22 Magnum a year before maybe, by around seventeen/eighteen was buying my .30-06 M98 and looked at a .375 Mag side by side for only $1100. The .30-06 was $400. I turned down the .375 DR because I wanted either a bigger bore with just open sights or a .375 sized rifle fitted with a scope or mount fittings. I regret that since.

Double rifles are expensive for a lot of young guys, so it takes a while for them to have the spare $$$ and save up.

Forgot to write the actual point of my post - oldtimers disease - I read an article by Col Allison in the "Sporting Shooter" magazine, a hunting writer in Australia, where he described buying a Bland (I think ?) .450/400 double rifle and taking it to Africa to hunt elephant.

That article got me interested in both double rifles and hunting elephant. I had shot the Frankonia DR before and perhaps I got the date wrong above and may have been more like fifteen at the time. But couldn't afford a double rifle till many years later. After my second African safari in fact, I usually buy a new rifle AFTER a safari. I actually only bought one after starting the original NitroExpress.com website and discussion group. Since then one has grown to seven, with another two or three in the pipeline.

The point is the original article sparked an idea and interest.

Similarly forums and websites such as NitroExpress.com, pages such as the NitroExpress.com facebook page and the many posts across facebook, the many articles in many different magazines on double rifles and related topics, all contribute to a great many people wanting to join the "club" one day and if they can't still have the interest.

PS I would love a semi-auto military style rifle too, the interest, the means but will probably never have one without a serious 'revolution' in this country.
