A 9,3X74R 1876 PATENT 'THE AUTOMATIC' PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE, serial no. 4886,
25 5/8in. replacement nitro barrels with broad raised matt rib, open sights with folding leaf sight, gold bead fore-sight, T. Southgate and J. Woodward patent treble-grip action, patent no. 600 of February 14th 1876, arcaded side-clipped fences, manual tang safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, protruding tumbler-pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, lockplates with additional external sliding bolt safeties, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, retaining some renewed colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, horn pistolgrip-cap, sling swivels and including 3/4in. leather covered recoil pad, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 8lb. 2oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this rifle was completed as a .450/.400 Express in April 1895 for John Aston.
